Idaho National Laboratory’s (INL) Mechanical & Electrical Engineering group is seeking forward-thinking professionals interested in exploring a career as an Electrical Engineer.
Our team works on-site with a 4x10 schedule located at our SMC facility with every Friday off!
Responsibilities Include:
Apply the principles of mechanical engineering to develop initial concepts, develop novel solutions, and troubleshoot operational problems of mechanical systems relative to force, load, wear, motion, energy, thermodynamics, and fluid dynamics.
Roles and responsibilities include to varying degrees, the following focus areas:
Responsible for modifications and upgrades to mechanical systems associated with SMC production and facility equipment as needed to maintain functionality or improve performance or function.
Selection, specification, and procurement of replacement, modified, or new mechanical components to ensure mission sustainability of manufacturing and infrastructure systems.
Track trends and analyzes the performance of mechanical systems associated with SMC production and facility equipment.
Lead trouble-shooting and repair of mechanical systems associated with SMC production and facility equipment.
Specify type, rigor, and periodicity of system/equipment corrective and preventative maintenance.
Provide technical reviews and approvals of Maintenance Work Orders.
Assist Facility Area Supervisor (FAS) on LO/TO preparations and in identifying proper isolation points and zero energy checks.
Follow Engineering Job (EJ) process for engineering changes.
Specify tooling used in the production process.
Provide technical input to support procurement activities of capital equipment or other systems for plant modifications with respect to mechanical operation, reliability, and performance.
Technical calculations as needed to support operation and modification of assigned SSC's.
Preparation of Technical Evaluations or Engineering Calculation Reports (ECAR) using hand calculations or mathematical software (Mathcad, etc.).
Author Statements of Work (SOW's), Technical Evaluations (TEV's), Engineering Calculation and Analysis Reports (ECAR's), Specifications (SPC's).
Provide technical solutions to safety or other problems that arise with Structures, Systems, and Components (SSC's) at SMC.
Provide technical reviews of drawings, TEV's, ECAR's, SOW's, SPC's.
Perform the role of Project Engineer as assigned by technical lead or engineering manager for various SMC projects.
Develop relationships with non-SMC personnel as needed to support work assignments if required technical inputs lie outside of normal expertise or education.
Exercise independent judgment and understanding of Engineering/SMC/BEA requirements and priorities.
Mentor and coach SMC employees on Engineering/SMC/BEA requirements and priorities.
Be a primary resource for manufacturing processes involving machine tools (machine selection, tool selection, process optimization) and CNC programming.
Minimum Requirements:
PR0300: Applicable bachelor degree in Engineering plus 5 years of relevant experience, or applicable Master plus 3 years relevant experience, or applicable Doctorate plus 2 years relevant experience for a Level 3.
PR0400: Applicable bachelor degree in Engineering plus 8 years of relevant experience, or applicable Master plus 6 years relevant experience, or applicable Doctorate plus 4 years relevant experience for a Level 4.
Relevant experience in manufacturing, automation and familiarity of automation controls, commercial facility maintenance, or other mechanical type work desired, either engineering or hands-on.
This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance, which requires US Citizenship.
Preferred Requirements:
Troubleshooting and communication skills are required. The role requires working with multiple classification levels and project sensitive materials. These materials must be handled within required security guidelines.
This includes the transfer of electronic data, documents, and other information associated with manufacturing and maintenance processes.
Need to have excellent written and verbal communication skills for preparing and issuing reports, plans, statement of work and technical evaluations.
Provide technical input to support procurement activities of engineered deliverables or capital equipment for plant modifications.
Technical input (Statements of Work or Specifications) shall be used for placement and management of design/build and construction type contracts.
Job Information
Salary Grade PR0300: 220 ($107,520 - $177,336).
Salary Grade PR0400: 230 ($121,212 - $206,232).
