Job Description:

What is the role

The individual will provide Mechanical Engineering support for an operational process manufacturing facility’s pressure retaining equipment mechanical integrity program.

Examples of equipment types are distillation columns, heat exchangers, vessels, piping and piping components, storage tanks, flanged joints, pressure safety valves, relief valves, vacuum breakers, and rupture discs.

This position will require a working knowledge in the above industry Codes and Standards, company engineering design standards, company global standards and best practices, and site standards and procedures. Strong communication skills are pertinent to this role which requires coordinating priorities with production unit and work-process personnel; working in teams to develop solutions; and working with the inspectors to resolve equipment questions.

Below is a list of additional responsibilities for the Pressure Equipment Integrity (PEI) Engineer.

Provide design support for repairs when needed. Involvement may include definition of repairs, design review, and specification of NDE and testing. This may require the preparation of material specifications.

Calculate renewal thicknesses for equipment and piping.

Assist in the evaluation of remaining life of equipment.

Conduct or overview, pressure vessel re-rates in accordance with the applicable code of construction and jurisdictional requirements.

Conduct or overview, vessel alterations to ensure they are performed in accordance with API 510 and/or NBIC codes, and PEI standards.

Review technical merits of requests for extensions of inspections

Perform stress analyses on piping systems and review analyses performed by outside engineering support.

Perform calculations on vessels without Code papers or a Code stamp to verify compliance with the ASME Code as allowed by the jurisdiction.

Perform or overview, advanced assessments of pressure equipment and piping for Fitness For Service in accordance with API 579.

Provide technical assurance by reviewing vendor design/calculations for temporary repairs, hot taps, and freeze plugging.

Provide technical assurance for all MOC’s involving pressure equipment.

Review and approve proposals to change PRV settings.

Review and approve alternate relief plans submitted by Operations.

Requirements:

Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Materials, Metallurgical)

5 or more years of experience as an Engineer working in the discipline of Process Pressure Equipment design and/or maintenance

Must have working knowledge of ASME and API Pressure Vessel and Piping design and in-service codes and standards, specifically; ASME B&PV Code Section VIII, Div. 1 and 2; ASME B31.3 and 31.1; API-510 (or NB-23), 570, 579, 650, and 653; and WRC-107/297 and 538

Computer Skills/Program knowledge: Microsoft Office Tools, PVElite, Caesar II, and wIMS
