SUMMARY:
The Personal Insurance (PI) Production Services IT area is seeking a Senior Java Application support programmer with experience in software engineering, application development and production support.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Ideal candidate will have strong leadership abilities, strong knowledge of the software release lifecycle, strong multi-tiered application and database development abilities. This position requires advanced application programming and analysis skills in support of strategic business initiatives within Personal Insurance Systems.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Production support for Strategic Platform application that was developed for quoting/Issuing within PI.
Demonstrate ability to perform programming and analysis functions at a very high degree of accuracy and speed for various applications and environments.
Demonstrates sound diagnostic skills dealing with production issues
Take initiative to understand the business function of all support applications.
Utilize alerting and monitoring tools such as Site Scope and Log File Adapters (LFAs) during on-call coverage.
Demonstrated ability to anticipate problems and recommend/implement solutions before incidents occur.
Be proactive with respect to problem prevention; responding to and conducting monitoring and alerting improvements, to include continual documentation updates for knowledge sharing with the team.
Work with other members of the team to add business driven small code enhancements to the existing systems.
Builds relationships with peers and other departments to achieve objectives
Identify and optimized code of existing applications in order to run more efficiently and reduce costs.
Provide 24x7 support when on oncall

TECHNICAL SKILLS:
Extensive experience in Java , J2EE, WAS, JBoss, Spring and Web Services
Advanced distributed application/ infrastructure debugging and troubleshooting
ORACLE, SQL Server
XML, JavScript, JSP
.Net experience a strong plus
VB6 / ASP classic a plus
Experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint) products required
Knowledge and some experience of WebSphere Application Server / JavaBeans Open Source Software (JBOSS) is a definite plus

Education / Work Experience:
- BS in Computer Sciences or an equivalent technical education and degree within the Information Technology sciences
- Experience leading in small technical software delivery teams
- Demonstrated effective business communication and interface skills
- Strong collaboration and facilitation skills
- Strong communication and presentation skills
- Strong negotiation skills
