UW Information Technology (UW-IT) is the central IT organization for the University of Washington (UW), responsible for strategic planning, oversight, and direction of UW’s IT infrastructure, resources, and services. UW-IT provides critical technology support to all three campuses, UW medical centers, and research operations around the world.
The Enterprise Information, Integration & Analytics (EIIA) unit at UW is responsible for Enterprise Data Management solutions, including the Enterprise Data Warehouse, Enterprise Web Services, Enterprise Integration Platform, and Business Intelligence and Analytics. The unit provides consistent and reliable architectures, guidelines, standards, tools, and services for data analysis, design, modeling, integration, and delivery of institutional data.
EIIA is hiring a Senior Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) for the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) Development Team.
The EDW Development Team exists to provide useful information for decision-making, the smooth operation of the institution, and otherwise ensuring that the university derives value from administrative data. The team is responsible for all extract-transform-load (ETL) processes of the data warehouse; technical design and implementation of ETL frameworks and tools; EDW data access controls; technical solutions and support for data quality management; and various areas of database and systems development.
As a Senior SDET for the EDW, you have experience leading end-to-end quality assurance and testing efforts within a complex enterprise-level environment and are experienced with automated testing processes and tools. You have experience working closely with development teams and deployment managers throughout the testing lifecycle, to ensure that the overall quality of the delivered solution is aligned with business expectations.
The emphasis and focus of this position is on the “global view” of UW institutional data, the supporting data architecture and blueprints for this big-picture view, and translating this big-picture view into detailed implementation. The position is cross-cutting, requiring coordination and liaison to internal team roles as well as external groups to ensure broad data integration and business value for UW.
As a Senior SDET for the EDW, you understand the fundamental benefits and challenges of enterprise data integration and are able to:
Assess and develop best-practices for testing within a large scale, complex enterprise environment
Closely collaborate within a self-organized cross-functional Agile team and with technology staff across a matrix organization
Design flexible test systems to adapt to rapidly changing specifications
Organize and influence positively and effectively
Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Management, related technical field or equivalent experience
Minimum 4 years’ experience with end-to-end testing in a data-centric environment, such as a data warehouse
Ability to lead and participate in functional analysis that informs technical testing decisions
Experience designing and implementing end-to-end quality assurance and testing methodology for enterprise solutions
Experience with reviewing requirements and developing test cases based on those requirements
Experience working with automated software testing applications as well as producing automated test scripts and tools
Ability to train, mentor, and guide others
Excellent written/oral communication skills, technical documentation skills, user liaison skills, and personal interaction abilities
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively on an Agile team
Intermediate SQL skills
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
Experience with Agile testing methodologies
Advanced SQL skills
Experience with ETL testing
Experience with SSIS and/or Red Gate SQL Compare tools
Experience with SSDT SQL Unit Tests
Experience coding in a modern programming or scripting language such as C , C#, Java, Python, PowerShell, etc.
Experience testing data quality
Experience testing enterprise-wide data systems both on site and in the cloud
Experience with data warehousing, such as industry standards, data modeling techniques, and design methodologies
Experience working at a large Research University
