Title: Sr. Systems Engineer

Job Purpose:
The Sr. Systems Engineer is responsible for the day to day operations of Blackthorn’s production and non-production environments. This includes, but is not limited to, deploying business services, implementing end to end transactional monitoring, creating and applying run-time governance policies, ensuring QoS and SLAs are met through the use of monitoring, run time quotas, and throttling, participating in troubleshooting of multi-component SOA based systems, detecting and helping mitigate security risks, proactively identifying performance bottlenecks or system performance degradation. This position works closely with the operations, networking, development, and QA. As a member of the infrastructure team, the Sr. Systems Engineer will support system management, software deployments, system monitoring and reporting, performance/stress testing, and other operational activities. The Sr. Systems Engineer will address trouble shooting and problem resolution with a focus on the development of tools to create repeatable processes for deployment, maintenance, and operation of software and systems. This position collaborates with client services, developers, and business unit personnel to identify opportunities for improvement and then insures that these plans are properly implemented and operated.
Key Responsibilities and duties:
At least five years of experience working in mid-size IT operations as a systems administrator or systems engineer
At least three years of experience implementing and supporting high volume transactional systems
Experience implementing monitors, alerts, and dashboards, and reports, using tools such as Nagios, Groundwork, and Cacti
Experience enforcing governance and metrics reporting
Solid background in operating systems, virtualization, distributed architectures, high availability, and networking
Experience supporting Microsoft .NET / SQL Server / IIS environments.
Experience configuring, deploying and supporting both private and public cloud services.
Fluency in one or more scripting and presentation languages
Demonstrable advanced technical troubleshooting and performance tuning expertise
Strong knowledge of SOA principles and concepts
Foundational knowledge of web service technologies from developer and systems perspectives
Foundational knowledge of information security principles and countermeasures
Foundational knowledge of Cisco voice and data networks
