Job Description:

The Data Engineer in IDA is a critical role that conceptualizes and builds data foundations and end to end solutions for the Shell Business to maximize value from data. The role helps create a data-driven thinking within the organization, not just within IT teams, but also in the wider Business stakeholder community. A Data engineer is expected to be an active thought partner in the organization’s data strategy.

What’s the role?

The Data Engineer is accountable for the following responsibilities (including but not limited to)

The Data engineer is responsible for initiating, development & delivery of analytic solutions in an agile fashion to the business to provide insights & improvement to business processes.

Become an expert in application design and development on the shell recommended cloud Platform. Lead design and code reviews of end-to-end customer applications

Perform enhancement, testing and troubleshooting of applications based on the business needs.

Continuously identify technical risks and gaps, devise mitigation strategies in anticipation of customer needs.

Write specifications, documentation and user guides for customer applications.

The Data engineer uses data and their analytical ability to find and interpret rich data sources; manage large amounts of data; merge data sources; ensure consistency of datasets; create visualizations to aid in understanding data; build mathematical models using the data; and present and communicate the data insights/findings and produce and present results with dashboards

Contribute to the exploration and understanding of new tools and techniques and propose improvements to the data pipeline. Also, Integrate the operations data platform with analytical tools such as Spotfire, the Data Scientist workbench, the Data Marketplace, etc.

Collaborate with Data Architects, Business partners, Data engineers and Data Scientists to understand data needs to drive key decision making throughout the company

Implementing a solid, robust, extensible data warehousing design that supports key business flows.

Performing all the necessary data transformations to populate data into a warehouse table structure that is optimized for reporting and analysis; Deploy inclusive data quality checks to ensure high quality of data.

Python scripting using libraries such as pandas, numpy , xlwings, xlrd etc.

Python data structures (Pandas Dataframes , Lists , Numpy arrays) and there computation time comparisons.

Experience in Django and another web framework

Experience in NumPy, and pandas Data frames

OOP concepts in python (Class and Objects, Functions, Modules)

Should have developed python APIs.

Experienced with Multithreading and Multiprocessing

Other common libraries experiences – like: pyCurl , time, pickle, logging, etc.

Logging and Exception Handling

Data modeling and extraction of data from different sources

Handling of business requirements, designing solution and Performing code optimization etc.

Experience in pySpark.

What we need from you?

Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.

Minimum five (5) years Python programming experience

Bachelor or master’s degree in information technology, computer science, business administration or a related discipline would be considered a strong benefit.

Also, formal training in SCRUM and other Agile techniques would be a distinct advantage.

Experience in building and deploying AI-based enterprise applications

Solid understanding of common Machine Learning techniques, applications.

Domain expertise in Oil & Gas will be added advantage.
