PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Lead Cloud Solution Engineer - IT is responsible for architecting, developing, implementing, maintaining, managing, and communicating technology focused on cloud computing.   This role works with IT stakeholders and business areas to design cloud solutions, provide input to and recommendations to cloud strategy. Provides consistent and reliable design services for cloud-based solutions. The Lead has overall responsibility for analyzing business needs, roadmaps, and technology within the environment to provide solutions to meet business needs. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and hands-on technical experience with Amazon Web Services and awareness of technology trends and impacts on how businesses consume IT is required.

The Lead Cloud Solution Engineer develops robust, immutable infrastructure as code solutions in the cloud. Applies open-source tools integrating them into modern, cloud-native environments.  Works closely with Hoag IT team members to develop cloud maturity and deliver on strategic business outcomes following Hoag IT engineering and engagement methodology.  Collaborates across IT functions to communicate and clarify customer requirements related to Cloud planning. Project manages large-scale infrastructure supporting applications tuning performance and optimizing cost. Works with multi-cloud integration including private and public cloud architectures. Works with cloud provider's Command Line Interface (CLI) and invokes APIs in languages such as Python.

Develops service level recovery standards and agreements with vendors, application owners. Research new technologies to improve software stack and enhance functional capabilities (i.e., ML, NLP, event-driven/serverless models).  Provides technical leadership to the team. Contributes to architectural discussions to build high-performance cloud solutions on AWS. Makes recommendations for new technologies, upgrades and provides the justifications for them.  Assist Crisis/Incident management teams during service disruption events and contributes to process improvement initiatives. Demonstrated ability to effectively handle multiple concurrent projects. Participate in the budgeting processes and manages project budgets. Participates in 7x24 on call for escalation. Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

REQUIRED:

Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or Computer Science or related field. Five plus (5+) years of hands-on experience in AWS cloud platform.

Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC), IaaS, PaaS and SaaS solutions design are essential to provide scalable and reliable solutions.

Extensive experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS). Experience with Azure, Terraform, Scripting, Ansible, Puppet and CloudFormation

Strong team player and the ability to thrive in a high-energy environment required. Must have a passion for technology and proven ability to learn new skills. Self-starter who's comfortable working independently.

Ability to participate in 7x24 on call for escalation.

Experience in infrastructure, database, and networking architecture for highly available, Internet-scale applications. Experience with Continuous Integration tools and processes (GitLab CI, Jenkins, Jira, etc.)

Experience Interfacing directly with customers, service engineering teams and support. Experience building highly automated infrastructure and cloud-native applications deployed in AWS, Azure or GCP.

Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail required. Excellent skills and expertise troubleshooting networking, compute, storage, information security and support services (i.e. HTTP, DHCP, DNS, NTP, NAT, switching, firewalls etc.)

Deep understanding of the entire application stack and related services. Experience on a team leveraging agile development practices, including stand-ups, and the creation/management of sprints, epics, and stories.

 

CERTIFICATION REQUIRED:

AWS SOLUTION ARCHITECT CERTIFICATES; ASSOCIATES, DEVELOPER OR PROFESSIONAL.
