SUMMARY
Bering Straits Information Technology (BSIT), a subsidiary of **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. is currently seeking a qualified Voice/Data Communications Engineer – Journeyman for Vanguard State Department in Washington, DC. Journeyman - Possesses and applies expertise on multiple complex work assignments. Assignments may be broad in nature, requiring originality and innovation in determining how to accomplish tasks. Operates with appreciable latitude in developing methodology and presenting solutions to problems. Contributes to deliverables and performance metrics where applicable. Provides technical direction and engineering knowledge for communications activities including planning, design, developing, testing, installing and maintaining large communication networks. Ensures that adequate and appropriate planning is provided to meet industry standards. Develops, operates, and maintains voice, wireless, video, and data communications systems. 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Create and publish multiple Engineering Implementation Plans (EIP’s) in support of the network infrastructure
Design unclassified and classified networks
Manage Radio circuit cutovers
Troubleshoot Cisco ASA and Nortel Site to Site VPN tunnels for network transitions
Install, configure, and implement DWDM and SONET Nodes
Configure MPLS TE, VPLS, and Carrier Ethernet technologies
Configure, install and mount Access Points
Conduct risk and cost analysis for projects and day-to-day work orders
Serve as Lead for telecommunications and systems engineering task 
QUALIFICATIONS - EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION
Required (Minimum) Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Engineering, Computer Science or closely related discipline; and ten years of relevant experience (including three years of experience in management of a network services environment and telecommunications).
Must have a Security Clearance appropriate for position.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Cisco Networking
Installation, configuration, and troubleshooting Land and Switched LAN networks
Security
Information Assurance (IA) Training and certification
Preferred
Experience supporting the federal government

Job is performed in an office setting with exposure to computer screens and requires extensive use of a computer, keyboard, mouse and multi-line telephone system.  Occasional travel may be required.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFYING FACTORS
As a condition of employment, may be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening, as well as have acceptable reference and background check results to obtain access to military base. Must have reliable transportation to/from work a necessity and must be able to obtain access to military installations.
