Our client a publicly traded corporation listed on the NYSE is web's premier destination for books, eBooks, magazines, toys & games, music, DVD and Blu-ray, and related products & services. It operates as a content, commerce, and technology company providing access to content through its multi-channel distribution platform.
Currently they are seeking to hire on full time basis a UNIX Systems Administrator.
Role and Responsibilities:
UNIX Systems Administrator
The UNIX Systems Administrator provides technical support and infrastructure management for all UNIX systems. The tasks will include systems management, performance management, storage backup and recovery, operating system release management, software patch management as well as operating system security management. In this role, the Administrator is responsible for the proper functioning of the systems and all supported applications, including the assurance that the expected results from application processing are being achieved. The UNIX Systems Administrator will provide proactive management of the UNIX based infrastructure to provide the required reliability, stability and performance for the UNIX applications.
Design, develop, modify processes, document, and implement the systems functionality required to support new or revised application requirements
Support UNIX system administration tasks, including patch management, proper backup procedures and operational support.
Implement changes using established testing procedures and change control
Develop and execute test scripts for all major application releases on the UNIX platform
Ensure system solutions fit in with application architecture, and conversely, that application solutions are designed within the systems architectural standards for the UNIX infrastructure
Prepare project documentation according to IT policy and standards to assure all UNIX applications adhere to required security compliance protocols
Provide application administration and support for Disaster Recovery procedures for the UNIX infrastructure
Coordinate all changes to the UNIX applications with the Business Applications Group and the Manager, Infrastructure Projects. This work will include proactive management through project and task planning as well as responsibility for all code migration to the production environment.
Capacity Planning and Performance Management of all applications running in the UNIX environments, including the performance test, disaster recovery, staging and production environments.
Work with the Information Security Officer to manage the UNIX systems security implementation
Proactively working with Business Applications in all stages of project life cycle; communicating status and risks in a direct and open manner; managing project scope and risk; planning and tracking of projects
Complies at all times with the Standards, policies and Code of Business Conduct and Ethics set out in the Bookseller Handbook.
Qualifications:
5 years’ experience as a Systems Engineer or System Administrator for multiple large UNIX systems and applications
5 years’ working experience with one or more of the following: Server builds for SUN 6000 chassis, T Series blades; Solaris virtualization using zones; Sun Sparc & x86 architecture support via Solaris 10 & 11, Server firmware upgrades; OS Installation & configuration, Disk configuration (Create logical volumes as well as raw devices); OS Performance tuning, Kernel Tuning; Cron job scheduling & management
5 years’ working experience with Solaris 10 or 11, Sudo
