Job Description:

Shell Pipeline Company LP (SPLC), a Distribution business unit, is responsible for the management and operation of 4300 miles of pipeline and several terminal facilities in the US. These pipelines and terminals operate 24x7 to transport crude oil, finished products and chemicals to and from various locations and markets in the Gulf Coast, West Coast, and Mid-West regions.

The Shell Pipeline Control Center (CC) is responsible for the remote operation and monitoring of a majority of SPLC’s pipelines and terminals. CC Controllers work 24x7 at the CC primary location in Houston, Texas. They receive information from and send commands to over 350 remote locations along the 90 pipeline systems and terminals they operate. The Control Center utilizes a complex system of equipment and SCADA software to provide the monitoring and controlling capabilities to the Controllers. Additional software applications and support systems are employed to provide for the maintenance, retrieval and analysis of historic information.

The Technical Analyst – Network Team is responsible for the maintenance, and management of all Control Center network and communication systems – ranging from Business Continuity equipment to VSAT remote communications to network pathways and devices. This role requires knowledge and awareness in the areas of telecommunications, network topology, cyber security, satellite communications technology, and SCADA RTU communications. The team also assists with coordinating/managing facility maintenance activities.

The Technical Analyst - Associate Network Engineer is accountable to the Technical Supervisor - Network Team for the following responsibilities (including but not limited to)

RTU communications trouble ticket management from creation-to-close.

Working directly with Operations and Field personnel to troubleshoot and resolve RTU communication problems.

Perform Level 1 support activities supporting Control Center Operations and Technical staff.

Perform Level 2 network specific support activities supporting Control Center Operations and Technical staff.

Network device inventory management.

Execute, when necessary, the telecomm Disaster Recovery plan for all planned and unplanned transitions to/from Short-Term and Long-Term Back Up locations.

Manage all network segments including equipment maintenance/replacement.

Support network equipment refresh projects.

Network device account management.

Traffic monitoring and analysis using Solarwinds, NetBrain, SD-WAN, and other tools.

Manage installation and decommissioning orders for RTU communications (VSAT, Microwave, etc.).

Manage redundant field communications (cellular).

Support the Process Control Domain (PCD) security program from assessment to resolution of gaps. Maintain cyber security standards matrix to ensure understanding of current company and regulatory requirements and guidelines.

Support logistics and execution of facility maintenance activities as needed.

Obtain Technical Staff Certification – required before system access and responsibility is granted. This certification must be renewed periodically in accordance with the CC Technical Staff Training and Certification policy.

Requirements:

Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.

Associate's degree preferred.

Minimum two (2) years' relevant experience.

Certified Cisco Network Associate (CCNA) training (ICND1 & ICND2, certification not required)

Experience using Putty, SecureCRT, or similar terminal emulator.

Experience using Microsoft SharePoint, Power Point and Visio preferred.

Experience using NetBrain preferred.

Experience using Solarwinds network management suite (NPM, NCM, IPAM, NTA) preferred.

Experience using Solarwinds Web Help Desk preferred.

Experience with Cisco VoIP systems preferred.
