We are looking for a talented Environmental / Engineering Geologist to join our world class team of academic staff working to address grand sustainability challenges. The School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences is a large, interdisciplinary School with an enviable record of success. Our research and teaching activities address issues of sustainability on land and in the marine environment, and we are seeking to appoint an excellent candidate capable of advancing our inter-disciplinary activities. The role involves undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in environmental and engineering geology, as well as general earth and environmental sciences teaching. You will lead the new MSc in Environmental and Engineering Geology, and integrate these disciplines into our innovative new Earth Sciences undergraduate programmes. You will also enhance our existing collaborations with industry. The School comprises nearly 60 academic staff and enjoys excellent support from well-resourced laboratory facilities (including 16 technicians). As well as depth and breadth in and across our subject areas, we have strong academic links across the institution with for example the Sustainable Earth and Marine Institutes. Our staff members hold research income in excess of £13m from all major funding providers, and teach in excess of 1,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students. You should have a PhD in geosciences, with a specialism in environmental and/or engineering geology. You are an enthusiastic team member, prepared to deliver excellent teaching, informed by professional practice, scholarship and research experience. You demonstrate potential for excellent research, commensurate with the level of appointment and compatible with one of the REF Units of Assessment to which we return staff (6, 7 or 14). A track record of applied research or industrial experience in the fields of environmental and/or engineering geology (one or more fields of terrestrial and marine engineering geology, hydrogeology, contaminated land, geothermal energy, engineering of geohazards) is required. We are especially interested in candidates who can develop synergies with our existing research portfolio. You should also demonstrate an ability to develop effective partnerships with industry and deliver an applied curriculum which enhances graduate and postgraduate employability outcomes. Please indicate the level of role to which you are applying and tailor your application accordingly. Please note however that the University reserves the right to make an offer of appointment within the range advertised, aligned with Plymouth's Academic Career Pathways, according to your knowledge, experience and skills in relation to the key accountabilities.
