Responsibilities:
Responsible for all aspects of engineering for Livestrong.com desktop web, mobile web, and associated apps, including full-stack (UI and backend), infrastructure, and native mobile app (iOS and Android) development.
Collaborates with product/business managers to align engineering capabilities with business/product direction.
Works closely with recruiting team to ensure a smooth identification, screening, and interview process keeps the team staffed with great engineers.
Mentors managers and serve as an escalation point for them for technical and staff performance issues.
Flexible and capable of working productively either as a manager of managers, a direct manager of engineers, an engaged client to practice managers, or a peer to the broader senior engineering management team.
Build a strong engineering culture by keeping information flowing about best practices and architecture and ensuring the engineers are happy and continuously learning.
Able to engage in detail on technical, architectural, operational, and scalability issues, and also able to empower the team to handle issues themselves. Knows when to become directly involved, and when to step back to foster growth and independence of the team.
8 years of software engineering experience, including at least 2 years of engineering management.
Experience with a LAMP stack (mainly PHP, some Python) at scale required; should also be familiar with many of the following: Redis, Node.js, MongoDB, Solr, message queuing architectures such as RabbitMQ, and RESTful services architectures; Objective C, Swift, and/or Java; cloud-native architectures, cloud providers such as AWS, real-time services such as Firebase, and cloud-based monitoring services such as New Relic.
Strong sense of leadership, ownership, and drive for excellence. Ability to instill that sense in others.
