The job of an electrical engineer is to design and develop electrical systems and components as per the specifications provided by the clients. An electrical engineer designs the components on the basis of various parameters such as economy, safety, reliability, quality and sustainability.
Job Description of an Electrical Engineer
The job description of an electrical engineer involves undertaking various responsibilities and duties such as identifying the customer requirements, creating a design of the products and systems, reading the design specifications and technical drawings, making models and prototypes of the products and working on the basic production standards. It is the responsibility of an electrical engineer to liaise with the other team members in the entire production process. He has to be in constant touch with the contractors and clients and has to arrange meetings with them on the site. Apart from the basic duties that an electrical engineer has to follow come the duties such as designing and conducting various tests, recording the test reading, analyzing the test readings and finally interpreting the test data. It is the responsibility of an electrical engineer to propose modifications and retesting products, qualify the final product or system, prepare product documentation, give presentations, write project reports and monitor a product in use to improve the design for future use. Another important job responsibility of an electrical engineer is to develop the engineering work plan for the various assigned components with program objectives.
Educational Qualifications Required for an Electrical Engineer
The basic qualification required to become an electrical engineer is a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology or Electronics Engineering. An equivalent degree in the same field can be considered as the appropriate one for this job, but this by and largely depends on the rules and norms of the company.
Skill Set Required To Become an Electrical Engineer
An electrical engineer needs to have excellent interpersonal skills, excellent organizational skills, good writing skills and excellent oral presentation skills. An electrical engineer has to have a leadership attitude as in many cases he would be handing a team. An electrical engineer must be familiar with the basics of a computer as his job requires this. Complete knowledge of the Engineering Processes along with a fair amount of knowledge of schematics and build prints is required by an electrical engineer.
